Health and Safety policy
Lambeth Movers Health And Safety Policy
Lambeth Movers is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, clients, contractors, visitors, and members of the public who may be affected by our removals and relocation activities. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with moving, handling, transport, and related services.
We recognise our responsibility to comply with applicable health and safety legislation and to follow industry best practice in the removals sector. Our goal is to prevent accidents, injuries, work-related ill health, and damage to property during all moving and handling operations.
Our Health And Safety Commitments
Lambeth Movers will take all reasonably practicable steps to:
Assess and manage the risks associated with lifting, carrying, loading, and transporting goods.
Provide safe systems of work for all removal, packing, loading, driving, and unloading activities.
Maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment in a safe and serviceable condition.
Ensure all employees receive appropriate information, instruction, and training.
Consult and communicate with staff on health and safety matters.
Continually review and improve our health and safety performance.
Roles And Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for health and safety within Lambeth Movers rests with senior management. They are responsible for ensuring this policy is implemented, resourced, and periodically reviewed.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for:
Putting safe systems of work into practice at each job and site.
Allocating staff with the right skills and experience for each move.
Checking that equipment and vehicles are suitable and safe for use.
Carrying out and recording risk assessments and method statements where required.
Monitoring compliance with health and safety procedures.
All employees and contractors are required to:
Take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others.
Follow all training, instructions, and risk control measures provided.
Use equipment, vehicles, and personal protective equipment correctly.
Report hazards, near misses, and incidents immediately to supervisors.
Refuse to undertake any task that they believe to be unsafe until it is made safe.
Risk Assessment And Safe Working Practices
Before each removal or related service, Lambeth Movers will assess the risks associated with the work. This may include reviewing access routes, stairways, lifts, parking, road conditions, manual handling tasks, item weights, and any special hazards on site.
Where significant risks are identified, written risk assessments and, where appropriate, method statements will be prepared and communicated to the team. These will set out how tasks will be carried out safely, including the use of additional equipment, extra manpower, or revised methods of working.
Our staff are trained to identify potential hazards such as trip hazards, uneven surfaces, confined spaces, vehicle movement, and fragile or sharp objects, and to put in place suitable controls during every move.
Manual Handling And Use Of Equipment
Manual handling is a core part of our work. Lambeth Movers places strong emphasis on safe lifting and carrying techniques to prevent strains, sprains, and other musculoskeletal injuries.
We provide manual handling training appropriate to removal activities, including team lifting, handling of bulky items, and safe use of lifting aids. Staff are instructed to follow weight limits, seek assistance when needed, and never to attempt lifts that are beyond their capability.
We use appropriate equipment such as trolleys, dollies, straps, ramps, and protective coverings where needed. All equipment is inspected regularly, and any damaged or defective items are removed from use until repaired or replaced.
Vehicles, Driving, And Transport Safety
Our vehicles are maintained and inspected in line with manufacturer guidance and legal requirements. Drivers are expected to carry out pre-use checks, report defects promptly, and operate vehicles safely at all times.
Loads are secured using suitable restraints to prevent movement during transit. Heavy and unstable items are loaded in a way that maintains vehicle stability and avoids risk to the driver, other road users, and the public when doors are opened.
We plan routes to reduce unnecessary risks, taking account of access restrictions, loading zones, and safe parking locations during removals work.
Personal Protective Equipment
Where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means, Lambeth Movers will provide appropriate personal protective equipment. This may include safety footwear, gloves, high visibility clothing, and other protective items relevant to the task.
Staff are required to wear PPE as instructed, keep it in good condition, and report any loss or damage so that it can be replaced promptly.
Protecting Clients, Visitors, And The Public
We recognise our duty to protect people who may be affected by our work, including clients, their families or staff, visitors to the premises, and members of the public near loading areas.
Where necessary, we will cordon off work areas, manage access routes, and position vehicles and equipment so as to minimise risk. Our teams will take care to avoid blocking fire exits, walkways, and emergency routes within buildings.
We handle our clients property with care to avoid damage and hazards such as falling items, broken glass, and sharp edges during packing, loading, and unloading.
Training, Information, And Supervision
Lambeth Movers provides health and safety induction for new staff and ongoing training for all employees, matched to their roles and responsibilities. Training may cover manual handling, safe use of equipment, vehicle safety, emergency procedures, and awareness of site-specific risks.
Supervisors ensure that less experienced staff are supported and that tasks are allocated according to competence. Where necessary, work is monitored on site to confirm that safe systems are being followed.
Accident Reporting And Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, and near misses must be reported as soon as possible to a supervisor or manager. We record and investigate these events to identify root causes and put corrective actions in place to prevent recurrence.
Our teams are briefed on emergency procedures relevant to each site, including fire evacuation routes, meeting points, and how to raise the alarm. First aid arrangements are made suitable to the scale and nature of the work.
Policy Review And Continuous Improvement
Lambeth Movers reviews this Health and Safety Policy on a regular basis and following any significant changes in our operations, legislation, or industry best practice. We use feedback from employees, clients, and incident investigations to improve our systems and performance.
This policy is communicated to all employees and is available to clients and other interested parties on request. Everyone working with Lambeth Movers is expected to support the implementation of this policy and to contribute to maintaining a safe, professional removals service.
